ROGER N DONNELLY

Senior Associate

An economist with more than three decades' experience, Roger N Donnelly is a Senior Associate of Oakbridge. He was Chief Economist with the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation (EFIC) in Sydney, Australia. Before EFIC, he held positions in the Australian Commonwealth Treasury and Finance Departments and conducted his own international business consultancy. His professional expertise spans country risk assessment, economic forecasting, risk management, investment feasibility studies, public policy analysis/advice and public speaking/lecturing.

As EFIC's Chief Economist, a position he has held for 15 years, Roger Donnelly was responsible for country risk assessment and rating, strategic advice and forecasts, and provision of advice to clients, associates, media and government. As a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Committee of Country Risk Experts, he helped to administer the country risk rating system, including the econometric model, used by OECD export credit agencies.

While at EFIC, Roger has also lectured widely in Asia on country risk assessment and management for APEC (the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation organisation) and the Asian Development Bank. He has also presented at international conferences for Euromoney and the Berne Union.

Roger is a sought-after commentator in the Australian and international media. n 2008 he co-wrote a book on Australian mining companies in Africa, Into Africa: How The Resource Boom Is Making Sub-Saharan Africa More Important To Australia.

Before joining EFIC, Roger was an economic consultant. One of his positions was as a director of the international business consultancy, Project Innovation Pty Ltd, a China-focused firm of which he was a founder. His clients included pharmaceutical and food companies for whom he undertook investment and joint venture feasibility studies. He was also a consultant at the prominent Australian research/corporate advisory firm, ACIL (later ACIL Tasman) and lectured at the Australian Institute of Export/College of International Business.

During the late 1970s and 1980s, Roger was an economist in the Australian Commonwealth Treasury and Finance Departments respectively and in the Australian intelligence agency, the Office of National Assessments. Assignments undertaken in this period included budget forecasting, briefing Australian Executive Directors of the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and Asian Development Bank, and energy market forecasting.
